Help Direct

Is a service open to all adults in Lancashire, commissioned by Lancashire County Council. Its purpose is to help people get that bit of extra support they need to stay independent, to keep healthy, to stay in touch with and see friends, to keep their home and garden in good order, to take part in leisure activities or have opportunities to get involved in their local community.

The main aim of Help Direct is to help people get the right practical support, some individual guidance or simply the right information and advice they need before a problem becomes a crisis. We support them to reconnect with community and mainstream services, and also act as a way of promoting these services. We maintain an online Wellbeing Directory (that will shortly be publicly accessible) of all such services within West Lancashire, and operate an advice line, 0303 333 1000, which is open Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-1. People can speak to an experienced Advisor at these times who will deal with each call on an individual basis and take appropriate action to resolve the issues, whilst out of hours they can email askus@loc.helpdirectlancs.org.uk and we will respond the next working day. We will also be providing Outreach workers supported by volunteers who will be available in local centres, and are interested to hear from anyone in the Parbold area who might be able to provide such a venue.

A representative from Help Direct will be available to give advice at the

Coffee Etc. (Formally the Pear Tree Cafe)

2 – 4 pm every first Wednesday of the month

News from the surgery

Have you considered registering for EMIS ACCESS VIEWER? VIEWER allows you online access to your medical records. You can view test results, this may be of interest to Patients who have been advised to have diagnostic blood tests... As I’m sure you are aware blood
results are not available over the telephone and Patients are advised they will be contacted if any actions are required following a blood test, and a ‘no news is good news policy’ exists, but for some Patients they do require more in-depth results and this is where Viewer can be a real bonus. VIEWER is the next level up from Emis Access which allows you to book appointments and order prescriptions. To register for either or both of the EMIS ACCESS services, please ask at reception for the forms.

The results for the Surgery survey will be published on the website and also available in the surgery at the end of March, grateful thanks to our Patients who took part, the surveys are conducted in order that we are able to review and improve the services that we offer to our Patients.

Patient participation survey results

The results from the patient participation surveys have been collected and collated and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to assist us. It is important to us so that we can constantly review our performance and make improvements as needed. In response to question 9 on how many of our patients were aware of the medical records viewer system, it is apparent that we still have some way to go as only 30% of patients were aware we offered this service, 64% were unaware and the other 6% failed to answer. So if you are unaware of the benefits of emis access medical record viewer or if you would like further information regarding this, please contact the surgery. On a more positive note we are very pleased to report that for question 10: 88% percent of patients found that the phone system was very easy/easy to gain access to the surgery. Although the introduction of the new phone system 2½ years ago was met with some resistance, we are pleased that the benefits of shorter queuing times and a much quicker response is becoming apparent to our Patients. If you would like to discuss any of the findings in more detail please contact The Surgery.

Please note the Surgery will be closed for staff training on May 16th the Surgery will close at 1.00pm and reopen the following morning at 8.15am, if you need a Doctor in an emergency please dial 0844 811 0909 and select option 1 or 3 and your call will automatically be transferred to the out of hours services.

The results from our recent patient survey are available on our Surgery website or alternatively available to read in the Surgery waiting room. We would like to encourage our Patients to consider trying our EMIS Access system that enables Patients to book appointments, order medication and also access all of you own medical records online, this is particularly useful for checking on results from recent tests and correspondence from hospital appointments, please ask at reception for the necessary forms.

The surgery number is 0844 8110909

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

During November the observant among us will see a yellow box has been fitted to the front of the Parbold WI.

Thanks to the generosity of local organisations and residents, the Parbold and Newburgh First Responders have installed a public defibrillator for use in an emergency when cardiac arrest is suspected.  Access to the equipment can only be gained after calling 999 and asking for an ambulance, when it’s early use may help save lives.

By using the latest technology prior experience of a defibrillator is not essential as the equipment gives oral instructions to the user, backed up by the full support of ambulance despatch personnel on the phone.

The First Responders plan to run free Heartstart courses in the Parbold and Newburgh area. Details of these will be given through local notices.

During the two years since Parbold and Newburgh Community First Responders were formed many local residents have been helped prior to the arrival of an ambulance.  This valuable role requires more volunteers to meet the needs of our community, day and night. If there is anyone interested in being part of the team (no prior medical knowledge required as full training is given), please contact-

Adam on 07723406139 (Adam.clammer@btopenworld.com)  or Alan on 01257462167 (alanmrudge@talktalk.net).

Parbold Parish Council Notes

Clerk:  Mrs Elizabeth-Anne Broad JP, LLB (Hons), MA, CiLCA 1 Pinewood, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 6UZ

Tel:  01695 557678  e-mail: parboldpc.clerk@yahoo.com

Parbold Parish Council meets on the first Friday of each month except August at 7.30pm in Parbold Women’s Institute Hall.  There is an opportunity at the beginning of each meeting for members of the public to raise issues for the Council to consider, so please come along and see your Councillors working for you and ensure your issues are addressed.

Huge thanks to WLBC, Beacon Rangers, Parish Councillors and volunteers who braved freezing weather to catch and relocate the geese on Parbold Canal.  The geese are now happily settled on the farm where they share a paddock with donkeys and other geese.

Another big thank you, this time to LCC Highways and the householder at 19 Tan House Lane, who cleared the drainage system after the cold snap created treacherous conditions on the pavement and road there.

Parbold continues to have a problem with drainage in many areas of the village.  Please be aware of this and take reasonable steps to prevent your flooding issue impacting on neighbours.  Creating new hard-standings, paving gardens and infill of back gardens with new housing development exacerbates this, unless adequate drainage systems are put in place first.  Factor this provision into your plans because it can significantly increase your development costs but is essential to prevent claims against you if something you installed causes damage to neighbouring property.

Overhanging hedges are continuing to cause obstruction for pedestrians and now is a good time to get them cut back.  If you have any on your property please attend to it so that people are not forced to walk in the road.
