Are you living with dementia or memory problems and feel you need more support?

If so, your local Alzheimer’s Society Outreach Worker can help. 

We can arrange to visit you at home or a venue of your choice and provide information, advice and emotional support.We also provide DROP IN SUPPORT GROUPS where you can meet and share your experiences over a cup of coffee as well as enjoy a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, music, games, guest speakers and much more.

We would love you to come along to our Drop-in group in Parbold to help us highlight Dementia Awareness Week and to find out more about the work we are doing in West Lancs.

We will be holding a sports/fun day for people living with dementia and their carers.  Staff will be on hand to provide information and advice. Just pop in at any time during the event.

Our office is moving to Gordon House, Leicester Street in Southport. Our telephone number will remain the same but there may be some disruption on Monday 23 January as our number is transferred to the new office. Don’t be scammed

The Office of Fair Trading have produced an excellent free leaflet full of useful tips to avoid being scammed and to spot the signs if
your loved ones are falling prey to unscrupulous traders.

The leaflet is called ‘Can you stop the person you care for being scammed?’ and is available by calling 0800 3893158. They also produce another leaflet entitled ‘Don’t let me con you’

PARBOLD ART GROUP

If you are interested in drawing, watercolour painting and pastel painting, Parbold Art Group meets each Monday at the W.I. Hall from 1.30 to 3.30.

  PARBOLD & DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB

From Wednesday 13th April Parbold & District Flower Club are moving to Parbold Village Hall, The Green, Parbold. With a bigger room we are now able to welcome more members and visitors.

We are inviting visitors so they can see what happens at our Flower Club. Experience the friendly atmosphere, watch a fantastic demonstrator and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit.

The demonstrators who come to Parbold & District Flower Club are all National Association of Flower Arrangement Society trained to either area or national level. They demonstrate approx 5 arrangements each meeting, all linked to their chosen title for the afternoon and the accompanying talk is usually amusing and informative. The lovely floral designs are raffled off at the meeting – with lots of lucky winners taking home the most wonderful flower arrangements. There is opportunity for a friendly chat and a cup of tea or coffee during the break.

If you would like to visit our Flower Club, we hold monthly meetings at Parbold Village Hall, The Green, Parbold, Lancashire – visitors are most welcome - the fee is just £4. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 1.30pm (except during August, December & January).

NEWS of our annual Christmas Gala Evening, this year to be held on Tuesday 15th November at Parbold Village Hall. This is going to be a spectacular event with the fantastic Andrew Grisewood – tickets are just £8 and this includes a glass of wine or a soft drink. Everyone is welcome.

PARBOLD & DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL DISCUSSION SOCIETY

This society meets fortnightly during the winter months on a Thursday at 8 pm, at The Eagle and Child, Bispham Green.  At each meeting there is a speaker covering a wide range of subjects which are sympathetic not only to agriculture, but to all aspects of country living and life in general.  At four of our meetings ‘victuals’ are also on the agenda. Parbold Library's issues are down again, so we are urging people to use our Library. We have a lovely welcoming building where you can borrow and order a wide variety of the latest books, Audio material and DVD's. We also have daily and weekly newspapers that you can come in and read.

We have weekly Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions, a Knitting group, Free basic computer help and other up and coming events.

Coffee Etc... Community Café

There was fantastic support for Coffee Etc’s Art Preview Night. Following the refurbishment and re-launch in July this year Parbold’s Coffee Etc Community Café has attracted a number of local artists who are exhibiting their art work in the venue.

In addition, local crafts people are also selling hand made cards, gifts and jewellery on the premises to raise money. The profits are used to fund the work of the youth club which is also housed in the building at Station Road, Parbold along with local and international charity work.We are at 3 Station Road Parbold.      The Wool Boat is back in Parbold at the weekend of March 24th and 25th, open 10-5.

 

   We are then intending making one more visit in April, 14th and 15th before we set off on our summer travels, aiming for Oxford this year.

Following six successful years, Pam Jackson has decided to step down as Beaver leader.   There are now three new Beaver leaders: Kathy Charnock, Monica Ferguson and Claire Williams.

PARBOLD FESTIVAL BARN DANCE

The Barn Dance is Back. Those of you who attended dances of a few years back will remember

how good a night they were, now Steve and Dave have 'resurrected' the event, its been off the calendar

for to long. It will take place on Friday 13th July (unlucky for some if you don't have a ticket) on Parbold Douglas playing field in the Marquee. Music will be by the Toll Bar Band and will include an 'all you can eat bbq' but remember to bring your own drinks.
